The first portion of this volume contains Rehn's field notes from his 1909 expedition throughout the western United States. Journal entries date from July 6th to September 15th. The expedition began in Nebraska, traveled through Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.
