Scope and Contents

These so-called librarian's books record the day to day accessions for the dates covered. In 1885 the card catalog was started by E. J. Nolan, replacing the ledger form of catalog. On the title-page of the 1856-65 volume is a list of librarians and dates of service, signed by Nolan. Edward J. Nolan himself became librarian in 1862 and was for years the only paid member of the staff of the Academy. The Journals cover the years 1845-50, 1850-56; 1856-65, 1865-73, 1873-76, 1876-85.

George Washington Tryon, Jr., Papers

Overview John Percy Moore (1869-1965) was a Professor of Zoology at the University of Pennsylvania from 1912 to 1939, an Assistant Curator at the Academy of Natural Sciences from 1902 to 1938, and held several positions between 1920 and 1956 at the Ludwick Institute, which offered free lectures and courses in the natural sciences.
