Dr. Ann Preston, a graduate of the first class of the Female Medical College of PA, initiated a course of lectures at Woman’s Hospital of Philadelphia on nursing the sick in the 1860s. On February 1, 1908, an official School of Nursing began and hosted students until the school closed in 1980.
