Scope and Contents These eight colored proofs of fishes were laid in a copy of John Edwards Holbrook's Ichthyology of South Carolina (1860). The plates for this edition were done by A. J. Ibbotson and Antoine Sonrel and colored by Jacques Burkhardt. These loose proofs were possibly intended for the second volume, which was never published. The plates are labeled as follows: Plate 1. Scope and Contents

Dr. William Smith-Vaniz was on the Academy's Ichthyological Department staff from 1972-1991, serving as curator from 1975-1991. These illustrations were created to accompany papers published in the Academy's journals.

Transferred to the Academy archives by Dr. Smith-Vaniz in 1990.
