Overview Nicholas Marcellus Hentz (1797-1856) was a French-born entomologist, engraver, and miniature painter who spoke several languages and studied medicine in Paris and at Harvard. Hentz became a member of ANSP in 1819 and remained so until his death in 1856, illustrating articles published in the Journal of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
