This volume contains Rehn's field notes from his 1956 Orthoptera survey (pages 1 to 88). Journal entries date from July 27th to September 25th. Rehn began collecting on August 1st in Yanktown, South Dakota. Over the course of the month of August, the survey continued through the Dakotas, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, California, Utah and Arizona. This volume contains the accounts of two brief field trips. The first trip (pages 1 to 48) was from August 19th to September 28th, 1957. Unlike other expeditions from this period documented in this collection, Rehn's activities on this trip were confined to a few specific localities and travel was limited. This volume contains Rehn's accounts of three separate field trips. The first account (pages 1 to 9) describes Rehn's 1959 field trip to Springfield, Ohio during the first nineteen days of August. On August 5th Rehn suffered severe stomach hemorrhaging, and was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Ohio from August 6th through the 14th. Upon his release from the hospital, Rehn retraced his path eastward. The account concludes with his arrival at Lakewood, New Jersey....

Scope and Contents
This binder originally contained Rehn's journal entries from his 1959, 1960 and 1961 field trips. These entries were written on loose-leaf pages and have been removed from the original binder and re-housed separately as a conservation measure. This binder also contains a small, double-sided laminated calendar for the year 1961, published for and distributed by Girard Trust Corn Exchange Bank.
