Amateur ornithologist and secretary of the Wisconsin Natural History Association, Dudley sends this description to the Academy of Natural Sciences to be read at its meeting and published in the Proceedings where it appeared on page 64 for 1854. The description has a note appended by P. R. Hoy stating that in his opinion the bird is definitely a new species.
