Even at the age of 14, this author was keeping notebooks of his field observations and with other enthusiasts, i.e. friends at the Central High School, and in the local Agassiz Club, preparing information for catalogs of various groups of animals. William Warder Cadbury was a Philadelphia Quaker doctor who spent his professional life as a medical missionary in China, where he established a garden of orchids and other plants. The paintings in this collection were commissioned by Dr. Warder from a Filipino painter known only as "Gomez." The collection includes the paintings, correspondence, writings, notes on plants, lists of species, photographs, maps, and biographical information.
