Scope and Contents

Watercolors of insectivorous plants drawn from life by Tillotson. Pitcher plants, sundews and Venus flytraps, of the genera, Darlingtonia, Dionaea, Drosera, Pinquicula and Sarracenia are portrayed.

This collection consists of ten watercolors depicting carnivorous plants. Sarracenia (Pitcher Plants) are the most widely represented in the collection, followed by Sundews. There are also single images of Darlingtonia californica, Venus's Flytrap, and Butterwort. These botanical illustrations have been painted on two different sizes of board: 19 x 26 cm. or 39 x 26 cm. The actual image size is noted, and varies from about 11 x 13 cm. to 29 x 18 cm. All are signed "H.S. Tillotson" in the lower right edge of the image. Seven images are dated. Eight of the illustrations have typed descriptions of the plants, written and pasted by Tillotson, on the verso.

Organized alphabetically by plants' scientific name, as assigned by Tillotson.
