This collection consists of single and group portraits of scientists (professional and amatuer), many affiliated with the Academy. When known, Academy affiliation and scientific field of interest is noted (botany, entomology, geology, paleontology, zoology, ichthyology, ornithology, diatoms, etc.). Portraits show scientists in the field and at work as well as posed portraits. Thus far, the collection includes 1680 persons or groups. Formats include photographic prints, cartes de visite, cabinet cards, engravings, etchings, lithographs, lantern slides, film negatives, glass negatives, tintypes, photocopies, and other reproductions. Prints are black and white unless otherwise stated. Signed images are noted.
