General

The folder contains two notes, one that accompanied the ballot box and one that accompanied the gavel. The noteaccompanying the ballot box reads: The Academy's Archives, The Constitutional Act shown here (with a Xerox to show the signatures on the last page) was adopted on March 17, 1812, two months after the first meeting of the "foundation members." From 1812 to 1903 the Academy met on every Tuesday evening in the year. The Minute Book shown is open to the meeting for November 29, 1814, at which the proposal was made to include a librarian among the Academy officers. The ballot box and gavel were found in the library and accessioned in 1978; nothing is known of their history as yet. The note with the gavel was written by Carol Spawn and reads:According to S.S Roback, Bill Day, and other American Entomological Society members to whom he described it, This gavel is not the one considered lost by the American Entomological Society. The note was dated 2/16/1984. There was a small hand written note in the bottom left hand corner of the large note that reads: Handle wrong, too large all over.
