This collection consists of three medallions, 2 small medallion storage boxes, and three notes accompany the medallions. The medals were given to the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia by outside institutions including the International Congress of Americanists, The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters, and the Academie Royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts de Belgique.

The medal was originally designed by David Bonner and Donald Patterson of the Franklin Mint. The original plaster for the reverse of the medal was never returned to the Academy by the Franklin Mint.
