Biography

Lucina A. Ball was born in 1847 in Greene, Ohio. She graduated from high school in Buffalo, New York and after working as a teacher and as an editor, she became the secretary at the newly founded Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York City. Based on her experience at Pratt, she was hired as Drexel's first secretary and registrar, where she worked until she resigned due to illness in 1897. She passed away in 1901. Two of Lucina's brothers established the Ball Corporation, best known for manufacturing glass jars, lids, and related products used for home canning.
