Scope and Contents
In the infancy of the Academy, curators appointed a member to act as unpaid librarian who had very little authority to make plans and policies. In general the library was administered thru the members as a whole. A list of the various librarians with their tenure of office is included with the list of officers of the Academy prepared by Maurice E. Phillips. Soon after Edward J. Nolan became librarian in 1863, the position of librarian was established

These petitions and resolutions are close pieces, possibly written by the person proposing the action, as a note for the secretary when copying his minutes. Most of them are transcribed into the Minutes of the Academy but

Robert Bridges, president of the Academy in 1864 and 1865, was a botanist. He was chairman of the Botanical Committee for 21 years and worked extensively with the Academy's plant collections, for which he prepared indexes.
