"Science Societies were once popular", typescript copy of speech given before the Historical Society of Montgomery County, Pa. 2 pages. Discusses various Societies of the Norristown area, the Montgomery County Cabinet of Natural Sciences organized in 1830, the Nugent Collegiate Institute of Gulph Mills, the Upper Merion Lyceum, the Literary and Scientific Institute of Montgomery County, the Lumberville Literary and Science Association, 1841, the Agassiz Association of the 1880's.

Scope and Contents This symposium was held at the Academy of Natural Sciences, to which 3500 people were invited. Of this group 441 are known to have been in attendance because they signed the register of visitors and delegates. Many of the records were kept by Virginia Tomlin and supervised by Edgar Howell and preserved in the Department of Geology. Four copies were made and distributed to Fogg, Wherry, Bayard Long and the Comstock Society of Philadelphia.
