Overview The first woman to be elected a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, Lucy Say was an accomplished nature artist and scientific collaborator with her famous husband Thomas Say. She made 66 of the 68 delicate and accurate drawings of North American mollusks for Thomas Say's American Conchology, at New Harmony, and did most of the painstaking coloring of the plates. Scope and Contents

The Mabelle Campbell photograph collection includes six photo albums, thirty-nine loose photos, two Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company Hiking Club Lists, and nine pamphlets from the Leidy Microscopical Club. The albums, photos, and papers document excursions of the Delaware Valley Naturalists Union from 1894-1939. According to a conversation with Mrs. Campbell in 1980, most of the photographs were taken by Harold Palmer

Overview Dr. (Mary) Pauline Root (b. 1859, d.1944) was a graduate of Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1883. She was the first female doctor to receive an internship at Blockley Hospital in Philadelphia, and was reportedly the first female doctor to be sent on a mission by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM). The collection includes letters, reports, both administrative and scientific, lists of specimens taken and observed, photographs of the staff, equipment and area traversed. Original outline map of expedition routes drawn by R. E. Peary. Much information about the part played by the Academy of Natural Sciences, is preserved in its Publicity Scrapbooks. Peary flag, previously on display in the Museum, has been added to this collection.

Percy Tindall papers

Overview

This is the second donation from the donor, Robert Tindall, a descendant of several Hahnemann alumni. (The earlier donation is the 1899 Hahnemann yearbook, which, although accessioned separately as 2014.010, is housed together with this accession, 2016.018.) Percy A. Tindall MD., graduated from Hahnemann Medical College in 1899. This collection contains 13 photographs, a letter and two textbooks belonging to Dr. Tindall.
