African Rhinoceros with Tick Birds Sculpture

Scope and Contents

This is a plaster cast of the African Rhinoceros with Tick Birds sculpture created by James Lippitt Clark. Clark was known for his excellent sculptor work with African animals and sculpted many Rhinos in his lifetime. This Black Rhino statue stands thirty inches tall and forty inches wide. It was created in 1912 and said to be on of Clark's best works.

Agassiz Association minutes and record book

Scope and Contents

The Agassiz Association minutes and record book includes the Constitution, bylaws, list of members, and minutes of Chapter no. 242 meetings held Oct. 26, 1887 to Feb. 27, 1891. These were kept by Philip P. Calvert, the chapter's secretary. Tipped into the book are loose notes "Schedule of Observations on Odonata," as noted by P. P. Calvert, 1888-89. The field notes are recorded on printed forms, 4-1/2 x 7 ins.

Overview Albert Laessle (1877-1954), was a Philadelphia sculptor who combined science and art to create realistic animal studies. This collection includes four of his bronze sculptures, 2 modeled while Laessle studied in Paris, 1906 (of turtles), 2 others while in Philadelphia, 1908,1918 (a polar bear and an eagle).
