Scope and Contents This scrapbook was prepared from photographs by various Costa Ricans and presented to P. P. Calvert, November 1918 by José M. Tristan, whose presentation letter is included. News clippings from Costa Rican newspapers and a few American papers have been pasted in. Photographs are by J. Fidel Tristan. who made a speciality of volcanic photography. Scope and Contents German zoologist and collaborator of F. Poey in the natural history of Cuba and Puerto Rico. Established his personal cabinet of types in 1846; cooperated fully with other scientists by giving them his notes and descriptions of new species. After 1888 he moved his specimens to the Havana Museum, where he became the curator of their general collection. Shortly before his death, the Museum bought his specimens. Scope and Contents Philip Powell Calvert and Amelia Smith Calvert's Costa Rica Expedition Papers include notebooks, diaries, photographs and maps. The Calverts, Philip and Amelia, spent more than a year in Costa Rica studying natural history. The itinerary and field notes were preserved in 10 small notebooks, photographs were taken (31 included here) and a diary written, the latter occupying 2 volumes. The ANSP offered high-end educational travel "expeditions" in the 1980s and 1990s, and Mr. Wright participated in at least the nine excursions represented here, across South and Central America, Eastern Canada, Mongolia, and the Antarctic between 1974 and 1997.
