Albert Laessle animal statues and medal

Overview Albert Laessle (1877-1954), was a Philadelphia sculptor who combined science and art to create realistic animal studies. This collection includes four of his bronze sculptures, 2 modeled while Laessle studied in Paris, 1906 (of turtles), 2 others while in Philadelphia, 1908,1918 (a polar bear and an eagle). This collection contains architect's plans, etchings, engravings, photographs and published pictures showing the various Academy buildings from its founding. The collection is divided by external depictions and internal depictions. The latter includes some exhibits, research areas, different versions of the library, renovations, etc. A partial account was included in the Academy's Proceedings for 1901.
