Overview
Joseph Leidy (1823-1891), one of the great American scientists of the 19th century, possessed a vast knowledge of the natural world. Best known as the Father of American vertebrate paleontology, he also pioneered the fields of parasitology and protozoology, and was the preeminent anatomist of his time. Scope and Contents
This collection consists of three medallions, 2 small medallion storage boxes, and three notes accompany the medallions. The medals were given to the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia by outside institutions including the International Congress of Americanists, The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters, and the Academie Royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts de Belgique.
