Overview
Dr. Adolphus Lippe was a prominent homeopathic physician who practiced from 1841 until his death in 1888. Born in Germany, Dr. Lippe immigrated to the United States to learn medicine and graduated from the North American Academy of Homeopathic Medicine in 1841. After graduating, Dr. Lippe practiced across western and central Pennsylvania, eventually settling in Philadelphia. African Batiks

Scope and Contents
This collection contains two seperate African animal Batiks. One of the batiks has a redish hue and the other blue. Batiks refer to a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. In October of 2009, UNESCO designated that Batiks are a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. A label accompanies the batiks that read: African Animal Batiks colored dyes on cotton, 1970, Gift of Mrs. Thomas Raeburn White.

African Rhinoceros with Tick Birds Sculpture

Scope and Contents
This is a plaster cast of the African Rhinoceros with Tick Birds sculpture created by James Lippitt Clark. Clark was known for his excellent sculptor work with African animals and sculpted many Rhinos in his lifetime. This Black Rhino statue stands thirty inches tall and forty inches wide. It was created in 1912 and said to be on of Clark's best works.

Agassiz Association minutes and record book

Scope and Contents
The Agassiz Association minutes and record book includes the Constitution, bylaws, list of members, and minutes of Chapter no. 242 meetings held Oct. 26, 1887 to Feb. 27, 1891. These were kept by Philip P. Calvert, the chapter's secretary. Tipped into the book are loose notes "Schedule of Observations on Odonata," as noted by P. P. Calvert, 1888-89. The field notes are recorded on printed forms, 4-1/2 x 7 ins.

Dr. Agnes Gowdey graduated from Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1935, after attending Carroll College in Wisconsin. She was in general practice with a concentration in obstetrics for most of her career, practicing first in Philadelphia and later in Riverton, New Jersey. She had an ongoing relationship with the American Youth Foundation (AYF), especially their Camp Merrowvista. The collection documents this ongoing relationship with the camp and its champions.
