Overview
Papers of the Custis family, 1851-1967. Collection contains materials reflecting the training and practice of homeopathic physicians, Horace Hatch Custis, Jr. (Hahnemann Medical College class of 1937), his uncle Gregg Custis, Jr. (Hahnemann Medical College class of 1888), and Gregg’s son J.B. Custis, Sr. (New York Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital class of 1878). Gregg began his career working for the railroad; however, after retiring, he attended medical school. His son, J.B. Custis, Sr., officiated at the unveiling of the Hahnemann Memorial in D.C. Materials include homeopathic and medical texts, including a scrapbook-like book “Homeopathic Envoy” (1851); Hahnemannian Monthly volumes; Custis family photographs; Hahnemann University painting reproduction; medical bag (belonging to Horace) and medical instruments.
