This collection consists of records collected or produced by DUTV, Drexel University’s educational access cable channel. Dating from between 1980 and 2010, materials represent a number of different formats including textual materials (such as issues of Crosscurrent magazine and program logs) and video recordings. The majority of the collection is comprised of videotapes of both DUTV programs and university events, many of which predate DUTV’s 1991 founding. Also present are a number of audio cassettes of viewer responses with handwritten transcripts. The original order of the collection could not be determined so items were organized into five series: Videos, Events photographs, Publications and promotional materials, Viewer response line and retreat [audio] tapes, and Program logs. Videos, the first and largest series, contains materials that date between 1980 and 2000. While the series is generally composed of videotapes it does include a few examples of other formats, such as DVDs. Many of the videos contain footage of DUTV original programs, such as “Criminal Justice Today” (circa 1994-2001), and the station’s coverage of university events and commencements. Other tapes, such as “Going National” (1984) are not DUTV produced, but are closely connected to the university. It is unclear as to how these videotapes came into the channel’s possession. Also included are a number of video inventories likely complied by DUTV staff. The second series, Events photographs, consists of one folder of (mostly Polaroid) images from a series of DUTV events held in 2003. The third series, Publications and promotional materials, primarily contains issues of the station’s Crosscurrent magazine from 1997-2004. These magazines provide much information on the programs and films DUTV aired at the time. Also included is a folder DUTV compiled in approximately 2003, which contains articles and handouts about the station. The fourth series, Viewer response line and retreat tapes, is composed of audio cassette tapes of phone calls made to the station by viewers between 2000 and 2003. Several tapes include brief handwritten transcripts that highlight an interesting assortment of viewer comments. The final series, Program logs, provides researchers with DUTV’s programming schedules from 1993 until 2003. Several of these logs have been annotated by DUTV staff.
