Background note

During the lead-up to its fiftieth anniversary in 1941, Drexel Institute commissioned two professors in its English Department, Edward D. McDonald and Edward M. Hinton, to write a history of the institute, which was published by Drexel in 1942. A quarter-century later, Drexel asked Hinton, joined this time by his wife, Margaret S. Hinton, to revise and update the history for publication in conjunction with the institute's seventy-fifth anniversary in 1966. They completed a full-length manuscript but apparerently the work was never published.
