Scope and Contents

Collection consists of Fuertes material amassed from 1976 to 2000, containing the following items: calendar for 1984, illustrated with Fuertes images, and published by El Museo del Barrio in New York; copy of Fuertes's "Images of Tropical Bird Voices," published in Bird-Lore in 1913, given to Academy Curator Witmer Stone in 1915 and so inscribed; Fuertes's illustrations on cards distributed in packages of baking soda by its manufacturer, Arm & Hammer; copy of U.S. Department of Agriculture pamphlet, Farmers Bulletin 513 (1913) titled "Fifty Common Birds of Farm and Orchard," with illustrations by Fuertes; Fuertes's ornithology lab notebook from Cornell University; 4 pencil drawings made by Fuertes in 1913 on board the "Santi Marta" in the Caribbean, on ship's stationery; Fuertes's illustrations on cards distributed by Church and Dwight; Fuertes's paint box; a Sigma Xi gold watch chain emblem engraved: Cornell University 189[6?]/E.A. Fuertes; copy of the April 1983 bulletin of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.

Oversize materials: 7 copies of poster compiled and distributed by Church & Dwight Co., Inc. (Arm & Hammer) c1938, headed "Birds-Nature's Protectors" and illustrated with 30 paintings of birds by Fuertes; 4 copies of poster labelled "Songbirds of Forest & Field; a Medley of Neotropical Migrant Songbirds" published by U. S. Dept . of Interior's Fish & Wildlife Service, 1993, illustrated with 11 images of birds taken from Fuertes paintings in Coll.808.
