Presented by Joseph Harrison, Jr.; January 2, 1855. According to a letter to Miss Ruth E. Brown, Academy Librarian [1969] from John A. Hahey, Assistant Director of The Peale Museum in Balimore, MD the Mitchill painting was purchased at auction by Joseph Harrison, Jr. in 1854 for $10.00.
