ANSP papers on paintings and portraits
Scope and Contents
The portraits of the Presidents of the Academy are arranged chronologically in the reading room of the library; other portraits are hung in the sixth floor of the stacks and a few are to be found in various departments within
the Academy. A list of personalities with the name of the painter, when known, and other pertinent information was prepared in 1948 and typed for the files. A second list was done in 1958 and gives the person pictured, the
artist, the history of the painting, and its location in the Academy. At the end is a plan of the two rooms in which most of the portraits are hung, giving the names and locations for each. A collection of papers about individual portraits, concerns the following eight: Robert Bridges, 1884; J. Brackenridge Clemens, 1926; E. D. Cope, 1897; William Hembel, 1841; C. B. Lamborn, 1923; Henry Lamborn, 1923; S. G. Morton, 1851; and Thomas Say, n. d.
Lists and notes from C. M. B. Cadwalader, 1958; a short record of 20 of the paintings in the hand of J. B. Wilkinson; and a small annotated card file of 36 by Nolan complete the papers.
