Biographical / Historical
Geographer, explorer and geologist, Heilprin was prominent in scientific circles in Philadelphia, founding the Geographical Society and instigating the dispatch of the so-called relief expedition to rescue Peary in Greenland. A partial diary of this trip, 1891-92 is preserved, some letters and other papers and documents regarding his official duties at the Academy. Writings and personalia complete the collection.
