Biographical / Historical
Bent was an ornithologist, with special interest in distribution and life histories. Professionally associated with the museum of Comparative Zoology and the Smithsonian Institution he also belonged to many ornithological organizations, being at one time the president of the American Ornithologists' Union. His scientific activities resulted in a 20-volume series of Life Histories of North American birds, which were issued as Bulletins of the U. S. National Museum between 1919 and 1958.
