The Arthur J. Cain Rafinesque papers contain drafts of Arthur Cain’s book: Constantine Samuel Rafinesque Schmaltz on classification: A translation of early works by Rafinesque with introduction and notes. This collection dates from 1988 to 1990, but is mostly undated, and contains eight rough drafts of Cain’s work. Drafts in this collection are arranged alphabetically by descriptors found on the title page, such as “early” or “original.” The exception are drafts described by number, which have been arranged accordingly in numerical order. The draft materials marked “foul” draft are thus described because they are copies fouled up by the computer transcription to disc from the original draft. Researchers curious about the writing and publication process of Cain’s work would be interested this collection.
