Scope and Contents From the Collection: This collection contains two printing blocks from the American Entomological Society. The large printing block was made from a sketch of the same design. The large printing block is to create certificates for members of the society. A metal printing plate is attached to a wooden block for support. Thomas Say, Introduction to Conchology

Scope and Contents

"Original manuscript of Say's article 'Conchology' in the American edition of Nicholson's British Cyclopedia" is inked on flyleaf. Internal evidence identifies this manuscript as that of the first American edition, 1816, although the wording of the preliminary leaf is not exactly like that of the published text. A copy of Say's portrait which hangs in the Academy's Library, is added as a frontispiece.

A single folder collection consisting of 17 letters - one addressed to F. V. Melsheimer, the remaining 16 to Johann F. Melsheimer.

The letters deal largely with mutual entomological interests, and include much information about Say's collecting trips during the years covered, particularly his trip to Florida in 1817 with William Maclure, George Ord and Titian R. Peale, and the Long Rocky Mountain Expedition.
