This collection contains papers and ephemera related to George W. Childs, including letters, calling cards, a book of autographs, newspapers, photographs, books and pamphlets. The calling cards and autograph book document Mr. Childs's social interaction with such 19th century luminaries as Nathaniel Hawthorne, General William T. Sherman and Alexander Graham Bell.

Scope and Contents This collection is made up of 4 volumes of scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings surrounding the death, funeral, and will of George W. Childs, as well as many commemorative biographical articles that ran in the weeks following his death. There are two sets of two volumes each.
