George H. Horn, practicing physician, army surgeon and distinguished Coleopterist was closely associated with both the Academy and the Entomological Society. He became president of the latter and made important bequests to it of study collections and funds.

This collection contains a biography of Horn, biographical notes, a copy of part of his will, a 144-page paper on Coleoptera, correspondence, and 12 certificates of memberships and honors in various societies.

These letters written to John Lawrence LeConte by 101 authors are for the most part taken from the files of the American Entomological Society, but include also 18 written by T. W. Harris to John LeConte. The collection was archived from the Entomological Department and here preserved under LeConte's name.
