German-born botanist, collector, and pharmacist in Mobile, Alabama, where he made important studies in botany of the state. Corresponding member of the Academy, 1881. The two writings are: 'List of mosses collected. . . in the State of Veracruz, Mexico . . . 1857, 1873" and "New and rare mosses received from the Pacific coast of the U. S."
