Scope and Contents On October 1, 1891, a rorqual whale was cast up on the beach at Ocean City, New Jersey, was photographed by Joseph P. Remington and later described by E. D, Cope. This skeleton, along with other type specimens of whales occupied a great deal of space in the Academy and in 1951 it was planned to transfer them to some other museum in the United States.
