Scope and Contents

Collection of material containing records of various reception committees, especially those dealing with a founder's day anniversary dinner in 1854, and the reception and dinner for the Peary Exploring Party in 1892. There are lists of subscribers, bills, receipts, 'letters and miscellaneous data.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection consists of 704 letters addressed to Haldeman, Constantine Rafinesque and Thomas Say, with a letterbook of 22 letters written by Haldeman. In subject, the letters refer to paleontology, conchology, entomology, ichthyology, to Indian relics and to spelling reform. Three botanical papers, namely (1) "Catalogue of plants, woods, seeds, etc., Collected in the West India Islands and presented to the Academy of Natural Sciences" . . . 1842 (2) "Description of a monstrous rose," collected by Prof. Walter R. Scope and Contents Robert Bridges, president of the Academy in 1864 and 1865, was a botanist. He was chairman of the Botanical Committee for 21 years and worked extensively with the Academy's plant collections, for which he prepared indexes.
